Exhibitions

For a while now, I've been feeling the need to take a day for myself where I travel into the city and see and exhibition.

Here I have compiled a list of a few I'd like to see...

~
#1 - Hollywood Costume

This has got to be the top of my list! Before I studied fashion, I actually wanted to become a costume designer for film, stage and TV. I love anything to do with 'behind-the-scenes' of movies and this particular exhibition features costumes from many of the greats.

Tickets are around £15 and can be purchased here

If you've been, I'd love to hear what you think! I will be sure to blog about it once I have visited.

#2 - Valentino at Somerset House

An exhibition of over 130 gowns worn by icons such as Grace Kelly and Sophia Loren. Tickets £12.50.

#3 - Ansel Adams: Photography from the Mountains to the Sea

When I studied Photography at A Level, this is somebody I referenced a lot. Photographs of the most stunning landscapes that just take your breath away! Tickets £6.35

I saw an outfit not that long ago worn by one of the Victoria's secret angels in a Youtube video I was watching. Ever since then I have been thinking about it and how wonderful it would be for say a wedding or a summer's evening (yes, I am already thinking about Summer!)

So I had a play about on Polyvore and this is pretty much what it looked like. Very simple and understated, yet effortlessly beautiful. It's almost dreamlike, which is why I named the set 'Ethereal'.

Sometimes the simplest of things can be the most beautiful. I remember being told this in my days as a fashion student and often when I designed things, the stripped-back versions were nicer.

With so many full-on prints about and so much 'hardware' being added to garments, I find the delicate pieces quite refreshing for a change. What do you think?

Daily Deal

Today's deal is perfect if you want to take a friend, partner or maybe your mum off for a spot of pampering.

For £69 for two people, you each get a 30 minute facial, 45 minute full body or hot oil massage and up to four hours use of the spa facilities. At about £35 per person, that's an absolute bargain!

Follow the link here to have a further look or to purchase.

I haven't used this particular spa myself, but it looks lovely. Take a look at the website here

If you do go along to this spa for some relaxation, definately let me know what it was like! Would you recommend it?

Heaven In A Peanut Butter Cupcake

Earlier this year whilst on my way to see The Jersey Boys in London's theatre-land, I stumbled across what has got to be the best cupcake I have ever had.

Thanks to my travels to the U.S of A (and more specifically, Reece's Mini Peanut Butter Cups), I have a real thing for Peanut Butter. Weirdly, I HATED the stuff during my childhood and teens, but now I love it.

So I was quite excited (bless) when my family and I walked into this cute little cake shop and I set my eyes upon this: a peanut butter cupcake.
The edible glitter really sets it off and I feel quite inspired to make my own cupcake creations.

The only problem is, I can't remember for the life of me what the shop was called, or really whereabouts it was. It was tiny and had tables with frogs on...

When I do find out, I'll be sure to post a link on here. In the meantime if you think you know what this bakery / cupcake shop is, pop a comment below!

A Little Bit Of Love

Recently I went for a little browse around my local Primark, mainly to try to find a couple of cheap embellished tops. Whilst I didn't find any of those that I liked, I did come across this really sweet ring, or should I say set of rings.
Aren't they cute? I've found myself becoming a little obsessed with it / them and throw them on when I need a bit of sparkle or want to add a bit of 'charm' to my look.
I don't know if it's the sparkle, stacking effect or the fact that they spell out the word 'love', but I adore them them. At £2 they were an absolute bargain too!
Anybody that knows me knows that I love statement jewellery, or at leat jewellery that's a little bit different. Maybe you yourself have some unusual pieces or know of good places to get some?

Wakeboarding

Last month, I did something a bit different. I'm always looking out for new experiences to try, so when the opportunity to try Wakeboarding came about, I couldn't refuse!

The company I did it with is called 'Wake Up Docklands', a pretty new company based in London's Royal Victoria Docks. It's right by the Emirates Cable Car (more about that later...) and very easy to get to.

The beginner session cost £35 and we got a good couple of goes each (doesn't sound much, but trust me if you're brand new to this, it's plenty!). They put you in a maximum group of four so that everybody has a good amount of time in the water.

They provide you with a wetsuit, buoyancy aid and of course, a wakeboard. It was a little cold being barefoot in October, but luckily as it was such a beautiful day and the adrenaline was buzzing, you soon forgot the chill.

Now I've never done anything like this before. I've never tried Surfing, Skiing, Snowboarding, Paddleboarding, nothing! So I didn't have much faith in being able to stand on my board in the water. Luckily, our instructor Lee was very patient and had a good sense of humour. After about four or five times of falling in and sometimes totally face-planting the water, I suddenly found myself being able to stand up and ride the water. I was actually wakeboarding! It was amazing!!

You are all sat on a floating platform. When it is your turn, you fasten your feet into the 'boots' that are stuck to the wakeboard and awkwardly 'plop' yourself into the cold, grey Thames water. Here instead of being pulled by a speedboat, you are pulled by a remote contolled cable that is operated by you instructor. Holding on to the handle as you sit in the water, you are gradually pulled up and out into a (hopefully) standing position, where you are pulled along the water and you do your best to balance and stay upright!
When you do manage to stay standing, it is the most amazing and free experience! Whilst you feel safe, you also feel pleasantly alone as you ride across the water.
They give you nice thick blankets to wrap up in afterwards, which was definately needed. There is also a little cafe on site and seats where you can watch the professionals practice their jumps.

Show offs.

They are planning on developing the area further and adding a floating island which will have more (and warmer) changing rooms.

I'm definately going to head back in the Spring and give this another go. It's a great activity to try on your own, in a couple or as a group of friends for a Birthday/Stag/Hen celebration.

Oh and whilst I'm here, I will give a quick mention about the Emirates Cable Car. As I said previously it's right by the Wakeboarding place, so after our session we jumped aboard and took a lovely scenic ride over to the o2 to grab some lunch.

As we were only going one way and had a Travelcard, it only cost us £3.20. Really worth doing, especially if it's a nice day. More information and pricing can be found on the website http://www.emiratesairline.co.uk/

Fitspiration

Today is one of those dark, dull, gloomy November days where the drizzle just sets in. In a weird way, I find days like this the perfect time to get myself to the gym. It's somewhere that is warm, bright and buzzy.

If I'm totally honest though, getting myself motivated to actually go is often a bit of a challenge! So having some 'Fitspiration' is one of the best ways for me to get up and go.

My love of Victoria's Secret and its angels has been growing for quite a while now. Since discovering that they have a Sportswer range, I'm hooked!

The range is named 'VSX', as worn here by my favourite angel by far, Candice Swanepoel.

You can buy these items through the US website www.victoriassecret.com.
If you live near London, there are two stores (which I have yet to visit!): One is on Bond Street, the other is in Westfield Stratford.

I'm off to pack my gym bag.

Daily PQ

I've decided that as a part of my blog, I want to regularly post inspirational and positive quotes (or PQs, as I shall call them).

It is such a common and easy thing to get too involved and sometimes overwhelmed by the negative points in life. I believe in balance and everything has some sort of opposite to 'balance' it out. Like hot is to cold; tall is to short; big is to small.

To balance out all of these negative thoughts, we should be taking time to really think about the positives too. It is often drilled into us about how important it is to keep physically fit, but keeping mentally fit is just as important.

So my collection starts with this short but straight-to-the-point quote:

"Toughness is in the soul and spirit, not in muscles" - Alex Karras

Illustration: 'Melody is in the Mind'

The other evening, I sat down and did something I haven't done in a long time. I got out my colouring pens, put on some music and got down to drawing.

When I'm in the mood, it's like therapy to me. I clear my mind and just draw. In this particular case, my illustration took on a bit of a hippy vibe. I love the colours and I guess all of the music and chatter that was in my mind just came out onto the paper.

I realised that I rather miss just sitting down and drawing without any real purpose and hopefully will make time to do this more often.

The first Christmas dinner of the season...

Xmas Dinner

November is coming to a close and upon looking at today's date, it's dawning on me more and more that in a month's time, Christmas will be over.

For a few weeks now I've been fighting the adverts and Christmas music in the shops, trying to bury my head in the sand and wait until December to face it properly. However, this Saturday poses the first seasonal event: the work xmas party.

I say party, it's more of a dinner. A fun one at that. A dress will be too, well, dressy, so I popped onto Polyvore to pull together some inspiration and came up with this.

I bought some thick black jeggings recently, which have become such a staple item in my wardrobe this season. They can be dressed up or down and really are just so easy to wear. Everybody should have at least one pair!

Working around these, I want to dress them up with an embellished top and of course, some gorgeous shoes. Finally, I can't go anywhere without at least one piece of jewellery, so I have gone for a vintage style watch. With all the embellishment on the top and shoes, I only need one piece of jewellery. It might be Christmas, but you don't want to end up looking like a decorated tree!
